Well. Just wait until we tell you about two-click billing.
What is it, and why is it bad?
Two-click billing is, unfortunately, just another way your copier company is nickel-and-diming you to death. First, let’s explain what a “click” means to a copy company. More or less, a click is synonymous with a page copied, with some notable exceptions. Why a “click?” Because back in the day, the printing cylinder actually made a clicking sound each time it went around, hence the moniker.
So as you’d expect, every page you copy or print counts as one click. If you print something on two-sides and the printing cylinder goes around twice? That’s two clicks. You see, your copier company doesn’t actually bill you for every copy you make each month, they bill you for the number of clicks you use. It’s all about the technology, but it’s also anther way they use technical jargon to confuse the issue.
All that is well and good until you get to unique copy sizes.
Say you run a law firm and you print a lot of documents that aren’t standard sized. You might not even realize it, but most copier companies charge you for two clicks every time you print an 11x17” page! Multiply that by a 100-page contract, front and back, and you’re eating through your monthly allotted clicks pretty quickly.
